9 Celebrity Preppers Ready for Anything

By Brody Danielson February 18, 2020

9 Celebrity Preppers Ready for Anything

Even if you are a famous actor, world-class athlete or chart-topping musician, you are not immune to disaster. Having access to vast quantities of cash will only get you so far if the proverbial you-know-what hits the fan, and many celebrities are aware of this.

In the past, prepping was most commonly associated with the tinfoil hat wearing, doomsday-fearing type. Today, however, people from all walks of life have realized that unthinkable things can, and often do, happen, and the notion of prepping has become much more mainstream. From soccer moms to A-list celebs, it seems like everyone has started preparing for the worst.

If you still think the whole idea of prepping seems a little bit crazy, here are a few of the many celebrities who have revealed their plans for protecting themselves and their families in the event of major emergencies.

Roseanne Barr

Whether you love her or hate her, there is no denying that Roseanne Barr is a strong advocate for prepping. She has tweeted that Americans should organize with their neighbors to grow nutritious food and store water and other essentials. She also recommends stockpiling cash for emergencies.

Nathan Fillion

Nathan Fillion, star of the TV shows Firefly and Castle, talked about being a prepper in a segment on Conan. He admits to preparing for the zombie apocalypse and says that he has learned to weld so that he can fortify an SUV if he needs to transport people from place to place safely in an emergency.

Zooey Deschanel

You may know Zooey Deschanel for the ditzy characters she plays on shows like New Girl, but in real life, she’s a big fan of being prepared. In a segment on Conan, she discusses being a generally prepared person and having an earthquake kit. She also mentions that she has a tent and always scopes out the exits in preparation when visiting new places.

Jamie Lee Curtis

Jamie Lee Curtis has teamed up with the American Red Cross to create a video that discusses preparing for emergencies and creating an earthquake kit. She talks about what is in her personal survival kit. She also advocates creating a mobile emergency kit that you can take with you in the event of a disaster.

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey is best known as an Olympic medalist and for her performances in the UFC octagon. She is also, however, a prepper. She lives with her husband in Southern California on a mostly independent homestead. They raise goats, chickens and a steer and believe in the importance of self-reliance. Rousey says that people need to know how to feed themselves and do trigonometry and that these skills are becoming less and less commonplace. She also states that, for most people, going to the grocery store is their survival plan and that a grocery store closing would be a scary thought.

Ryan Seacrest

Ryan Seacrest didn’t reveal his prepping plans to the world. Instead, he was “outed” by National Enquirer. In any case, a source reports that he lives in fear of the “imminent Hollywood Doomsday.” Supposedly, he has stocked up on enough protein bars to last a lifetime.

The Walton Family

It isn’t a single celebrity, per se, but the entire Walton family–the ones who own Walmart–are well-known preppers. The family has a custom-built bunker in their hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas. The bunker was built shortly after the attacks of September 11, 2001, and is large enough to house the entire family. It has its own full-time security guard.

Steve Huffman

Steve Huffman is the co-founder of Reddit and is an admitted prepper. He underwent Lasix surgery to correct his eyesight because he felt that, if he lost access to his glasses or contacts, his personal world would end. He also has his own bunkers as well as motorcycles to use to evacuate San Francisco in an emergency.

Antonio Garcia Martinez

You may not recognize the name, but Antonio Garcia Martinez is the former product manager of Facebook. He bought land in the Pacific Northwest and built a bunker that is fully equipped with survival equipment, diesel and solar generators–and plenty of firepower.

Are You Ready to Start Prepping?

When famous people start making preparations for natural disasters, civil unrest and other catastrophes, people take notice. While the whole notion of prepping once seemed crazy and paranoid, more and more people are recognizing the uncertainty of the world in which we live and are taking steps to prepare for an unknown future.

If you are thinking about becoming a prepper, getting started can seem overwhelming. There are several small steps you can take, though, to make sure that you and your family are prepared to face an emergency. For starters, make sure to keep food and water in your home. Experts recommend at least three days’ worth of water and 30 days’ worth of food. Stock up on clothing, too. Laundry facilities will be unavailable if the grid goes down, so make sure you have plenty of wardrobe basics like t-shirts and hoodies.

Create an emergency kit for your home. This kit should contain first aid supplies, basic tools, medications, flashlights, extra batteries and other essentials. Building your own emergency kit doesn’t take a lot of money, and doing so is a big step in ensuring that you and your family will be okay if disaster strikes your home.

Conclusion

No one wants to imagine the unthinkable happening. Unfortunately, homes are demolished by tornadoes, earthquakes and hurricanes every day. Families are ripped apart by civil unrest. Municipal water supplies fail. Disasters can, and often do, strike.

Plenty of celebrities and many of the world’s wealthiest people have become preppers. While you may not need to go to the extreme of building an underground bunker, it is smart to invest in some basic supplies to prepare for disasters.
