Setting Goals and Getting Inspired

Now is a great time to set a goal for when your quarantine is lifted. This can give you some time to save up, get a plan together, get prepared and have something to look forward to. This goal can be anything, it can be a hike you want to accomplish, a mountain you want to climb, a race you want to compete in, a place you want to travel to, anything that will motivate you. Get focused, set your mind to it and don’t stop till you achieve it.

The first step to completing a goal is finding out what you want to get out of it. Maybe it is a new experience, maybe it is pushing yourself in ways outside of your comfort zone, maybe it is even learning a new language. “Set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy and inspires your hopes” Use this time to your advantage to get inspired and work for something that you really want. Answer, why. Why do you want to achieve this goal and then set a date. When do you want to achieve this goal by.

After you have completed these three steps, write it down to make it official. Say your goal is to complete a half marathon or marathon by the end of this year. Write down the steps you will need to accomplish every week to get there. How many miles will you need to run a week to get your body in shape. Some more examples are, say you want to travel out of the country this upcoming year. How much will you need to put away each paycheck in order to get yourself there. Or if your goal is starting a business of your own. What business plan steps do you need to take to start it and grow it successfully? These are the points you should be jotting down. This can help you break down the goal into reasonable steps. Another important thing to think about, (nobody likes this part), but what are the obstacles and how are you going to get through them. Thinking about this can be very effective because once you reach an obstacle you will have a plan on how to get through it.

Hold yourself accountable and make it a priority. Ingrain it in your mind. “The Mind is the most powerful thing in the world. The mind has capabilities that are so unknown, and being able to tap into that is on the other side of suffering.” David Goggins. David Goggins is a great person to look into if you are looking for some inspiration. He is an ultramarathon runner, ultra-distance cyclist, triathlete, retired Navy SEAL and holds the world record for most pull-ups in 24 hours. And yes, he failed before he succeeded. If you are the type of person that gets inspired by others stories then we encourage you to look for inspiration. Read books, listen to podcasts, watch documentaries or movies. Whatever it is, ultitze it to your power.

Accomplishing a goal is the most rewarding feeling in the world. It is also very addicting. Once you accomplish what you have been working for, you will probably be on the lookout to fulfill that satisfaction again.
